Rural animal health

Providing vital healthcare for rural animals

Our TOLFA Animal Hospital is based in a village and therefore rural animals are a part of our everyday lives.  Most of the farmers living around us are subsistence farmers and when their animals are sick it can have a huge negative impact on the family.

Our Rural animal health clinics are an open clinic where villagers can bring their animals for free or subsidised veterinary treatment when they are sick or have been injured.  We serve 10 villages in and around TOLFA and approximately 80% of the rural animals that we treat are goats. The aim for our rural animal health clinics is to:

  • Provide quality veterinary treatment
  • Advise on good animal husbandry practices
  • Advise on preventable healthcare to avoid disease outbreaks

It’s about welfare and not production

For ethical reasons TOLFA will not prescribe any medicines or perform any procedures on livestock animals that are designed only to increase their production or that go against the welfare needs of the individual animal.  We do however believe that all animals should have access to good veterinary care.
